Receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)

2–4 weeks after accepting offer

After accepting your offer and paying your deposit, the university issues a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). This is your primary visa document. You may need to pay the first semester's tuition upfront to receive the CoE.

Purchase Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

Before visa application

OSHC is mandatory for the full duration of your visa. Purchase it before applying for the visa — your university can arrange it on your behalf. Popular providers include Medibank, Bupa, and AHM. Costs around AUD $500–$600/year.

Apply for Student Visa (Subclass 500)

3–4 months before start

Apply online through the ImmiAccount portal. You must submit the GTE (Genuine Temporary Entrant) statement explaining why you want to study in Australia and your plans to return home. Pay AUD $710 application fee.

Arrive and complete orientation

1–2 weeks before course start

Attend your university's compulsory international student orientation. Set up an Australian bank account (CommBank, NAB, or ANZ student accounts). Register with a local GP. Get a TFN (Tax File Number) from the ATO if you plan to work.

Enrol and begin studies

Orientation week

Complete formal enrollment, get your student ID, and register for subjects. Explore on-campus support services including academic support, mental health services, and career centres. International students can work up to 48 hours per fortnight.
